This project in Hampstead comprised two bespoke curved staircases, both made entirely from solid oak. The helical design rises with a graceful sweep through the full height of the house, with each tread, spindle and handrail crafted from the same warm, natural oak — giving the staircase a beautifully unified, organic appearance.
Continuous Curved Oak Handrail with Turned Oak Spindles
The balustrade features slender square oak spindles topped by a fully continuous curved oak handrail, shaped and bent to follow the sweep of the staircase without a single break or joint. This level of craftsmanship requires precision bending and laminating techniques that few joiners can deliver. The natural satin finish preserves the warmth of the grain throughout.
