This modern oak staircase in Swiss Cottage is one of our most architecturally bold projects. Crafted entirely from solid oak, the design dispenses with traditional spindles entirely — instead, continuous solid oak panels form the full-height balustrade, creating a smooth, unbroken surface that turns the staircase into a sculptural element of the interior. The result is a staircase that functions as architecture.
The project required full structural analysis and strength calculations of the stair structure prior to fabrication, ensuring the cantilevered open treads and solid panel construction met all safety and building regulation requirements. Each tread is solid oak, projecting cleanly from the stringer with no visible fixings. Natural oak finish keeps the design light and contemporary, perfectly suited to a modern London interior.
